In 2011 Cardiff was the location for the Wheelchair Rugby GB Cup with Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby (GBWR) playing host to an international event in the build up to the 2012 Paralympic Games. GBWR were joined by some of the world's top wheelchair rugby players when Australia, Belgium, Japan and Sweden descended on Cardiff to compete in four days of intense competition. The tournament held at the Sport Wales National Centre, Cardiff was the highest-level of competition the squads play before the Paralympics in 2012.

  • Planning, organisation and delivery of the event in line with GBWR financial policies through the establishment of a timeline and project plan
  • Management of the venue plan and overlay of the event; supporting GBWR through the successful tender, and management of event contractors and Wheelchair Rugby specific requirements
  • Development and delivery of an opening and closing ceremony
  • Recruitment, training and deployment of volunteers in partnership with Sport.Cardiff
  • Establishment and administration of an entry and accreditation system
  • Planning and delivery of safety and security requirements
  • Liaison with identified accommodation, transport and medical providers to ensure catering and similar requirements were delivered for athletes, officials and VIPs
